Dr. Hasan Murshed on the importance of early detection for prostate cancer.
During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, WJHG News Channel 7 in Panama City Beach is helping to bring attention to a critical health issue affecting men: prostate cancer. Dr. Hasan Murshed, a radiation oncologist at Advanced Urology Institute’s Hope Regional Cancer Center, emphasizes the importance of early detection, particularly for men over the age of 40.
According to Dr. Murshed, the survival rate for prostate cancer is very high if caught early—over 98% of men diagnosed today can expect to be thriving a decade from now. He encourages men to speak with their doctor about getting a PSA test, a simple blood test that can indicate if prostate cancer is present. Since many men don’t have symptoms, this early screening is crucial.
If you are a man 40 or older, consider talking to your doctor about screening. Getting checked early can make a huge difference, increasing the probability of a cure.
