Advancing Prostate Cancer Treatment with Revolutionary Technology

Innovating Prostate Cancer Care with Da Vinci Robotic SystemScience and medicine are on a unique journey, advancing hand in hand towards a future where the fearsome diagnosis of prostate cancer is no longer a dreaded sentence. At the forefront of this evolution is the da Vinci Robotic System, a powerful tool that’s redefining the landscape of prostate cancer treatment. As leading urologists in FL, we at Advanced Urology Institute are proud to have integrated this breakthrough technology into our practice.

Dr. M. Scott Klavans, one of our specialists based in Palm Harbor, FL, highlights the exciting strides we’ve made in treating prostate cancer, saying: “I’ve done about 1,500 robotic prostatectomies for prostate cancer over the years. It’s an unbelievable technology.”

The Da Vinci Robotic System: Minimally Invasive, Maximum Results

The da Vinci Surgical System enables us to perform minimally invasive surgeries with remarkable precision. This, as Dr. Klavans explains, “does everything through little tiny incisions, little tiny instruments in the body.” So, what does this mean for our patients? Essentially, a quicker procedure, shorter hospital stay, and a faster return to normal activities.

Dr. Klavans explains this succinctly: “We’re able to remove the prostate in about an hour, hour and a half, stay in the hospital overnight. Within about three weeks, you’re back to all your normal activities.”

Precision and Control

The ability to perform these delicate surgeries with utmost precision makes the da Vinci Robotic System a game-changer. According to Dr. Christopher Sherman, one of our esteemed urologists from Largo, FL, “When you’re using the camera, you can see extremely well in a 3D view using the robotic camera. The movements of the robot are extremely precise in order to tie sutures and touch tissue.”

This precision not only allows us to perform the prostatectomy that is minimally invasive but also provides excellent post-surgery results. As per Dr. Klavans, “It gives great cancer control, good urinary control, good potency afterward. Patients do very well with it.”

Dr. M. Scott Klavans (Palm Harbor, FL)
I do most of the robotic prostatectomies in our group. I’ve done about 1,500 robotic prostatectomies for prostate cancer over the years. So I do everything, but certainly that would be probably my main sub-specialty is treating prostate cancer with surgery. It’s unbelievable technology is, you know, over the last 10 years, like I said, I’ve probably done about 1,500 of them, and it’s done through little tiny incisions, little tiny instruments in the body. We’re able to remove the prostate in about an hour, hour and a half, stay in the hospital overnight. Within about three weeks, you’re back to all your normal activities. It gives great cancer control, good urinary control, good potency afterwards. Patients do very well with it.

Well, the advantage of the robots, I mean, you could do the procedure minimally evasively. So you only make small incisions to remove the prostate. And it’s very precise. When you’re using the camera, you can see it extremely well in a 3D view using the robotic camera. The movements of the robot are extremely precise in order to tie sutures and touch tissue. So it really just makes, it helps you do precise movements a lot easier.
